National Flag of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Basic Information

The Brazilian flag has a width-to-height ratio of 10:7. It features a green field with a yellow diamond in the center. Inside the diamond is a blue celestial globe containing 27 white five-pointed stars of different sizes.

A curved white band crosses the globe and bears the national motto in green Portuguese lettering.

Historical Development: The flag was officially adopted on November 19, 1889, originally with 21 stars. Following changes to Brazil’s administrative divisions, the design was revised to include 27 stars in 1992. These stars represent Brazil’s 26 states and the Federal District.
