I. Basic Introduction to the National Flag

The Ukrainian national flag is called Прапор України in Ukrainian. It consists of two equal horizontal stripes, blue above yellow. The design was first used in 1918 and was officially adopted as the national flag following Ukraine’s independence in 1991. It is protected under the Constitution of Ukraine and national flag legislation.

Design and Proportions: The rectangular flag consists of two equal horizontal bands, with blue at the top and yellow at the bottom. Its official width-to-length ratio is 2:3.

Color Symbolism
